in-depth Fitness Consultation

In-depth fitness consultations are the fundamental first step on your fitness journey. They allow your trainer to better understand your fitness goals, lifestyle, the things you enjoy and any challenges there might be along the way. We've detailed some important information about your fitness consultation including the pre-consultation questionnaire and also what to expect in your consultation.

What Happens at my consultation?

Before your consultation, you will fill in a questionnaire that is rather detailed but it helps us provide a really tailored service for you. It asks about lifestyle, goals, gym experience, likes and dislikes and more. We will then go through this form with you in your 50-minute "in-depth fitness consultation" as well as taking any necessary measurements and doing any fitness, flexibility or strength tests, but only if these are relevant to you.

During your consultation we will also discuss any equipment and resources you have available and tailor your program and PT sessions to ensure you still meet your goals. If you have only one dumbbell, a full home gym or just a dining chair and some tins of beans, there are so many exercises we can show you that will work the right muscles for you to have a successful session!

What if I have an injury or limitation?

I strongly believe something is better than nothing, and slow progress is still progress! If you have an injury, disability or limitation, we can still train. We may need to avoid certain exercises, only work on certain muscles or reduce the intensity of your workout and depending on the type and severity, you may need to re-consult a doctor about your exercise. We are happy to work with your healthcare team to find a way forward that puts your health and safety first.

What if I find exercise really difficult?

It is absolutely fine, I am not expecting you to be perfect - we all have to start from somewhere. I will always work with you to find out at the start of our journey what you enjoy and dislike, which exercises you can do and which ones to avoid as well as tailoring workouts to suit injuries, disabilities or discomfort. While we are training, if you find a particular exercise too hard or your condition changes, just speak to me and I will change it for you. There are always options/alternatives to every exercise and we can adjust sessions e.g. have longer resting times or work on a different muscle group. At the end of the day I want you to be comfortable and enjoy the workout.
