FAQ's

There are always a lot of questions when it comes to fitness. Below are answers to some of the most common questions I’ve received. There are obviously a lot more questions, so feel free to get in touch with me and ask away.

What are the benefits of Personal Training?

There are tons of benefits for hiring a personal trainer, the most important benefit of having a PT is getting a self tailored program. A PT will guide you through the correct positioning and form and can help ensure that you are performing the exercise most effectively for your body. You will not only likely see better results but also avoid potential injury this way. The additional benefits of choosing FitR as your PT is the completely non-judgemental approach, the focus on finding what is healthy to you, the positivity and enthusiasm you'll get from your trainer and the creative training sessions that avoid the things you don't like so you can get the most out of your workout while having a laugh!

I don't live in Nottingham, can I still train with you?

Yes, of course! We offer online personal training so no matter where in the world you are, you can train with FitR

I'm a complete beginner, where do I start?

You have already started by deciding to take on a new fitness challenge! You can book a consultation with us either in person (Nottingham area) or online and we can go through everything we need to ensure you are happy and successful.

Why does everything hurt the next day?

Don't worry, it is absolutely normal. The next day pain after workout known as DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is very normal. it is because you tried something for the first time or you pushed your body a bit extra. It normally takes 3-6 days, or in some cases 9 days, to recover. My suggestion would be to drink more water and try to be as active as possible during this stage as going from lots of activity to very little movement will exaggerate the soreness.

How does the consultation work?

Before your consultation, you will fill in a questionnaire that is rather detailed but it helps us provide a really tailored service for you. It asks about lifestyle, goals, gym experience, likes and dislikes and more. We will then go through this form with you in your consultation as well as taking any necessary measurements or doing any fitness, flexibility or strength tests, but only if these are relevant to you.

I want to lose weight by a certain date for a wedding. Can you help?

Yes! As long as your goal is realistic and there is a good amount of time, we can help you aim towards it. We can offer a tailored program, 1-to-1 PT sessions either online or in person and provide nutritional advice to support you. We also offer an intense 8 week transformation program with all of the motivation and accountability you might need to ensure you stay on target!

Can I set the time of my session?

Of course you are the client, sessions will be organised around your schedule - see the calendar on the bookings page for availability and choose the time that suits you.

What if I find exercise really difficult?

It is absolutely fine, I am not expecting you to be perfect - we all have to start from somewhere. I will always work with you to find out at the start of our journey what you enjoy and dislike, which exercises you can do and which ones to avoid as well as tailoring workouts to suit injuries, disabilities or discomfort. While we are training, if you find a particular exercise too hard or your condition changes, just speak to me and I will change it for you. There are always options/alternatives to every exercise and we can adjust sessions e.g. have longer resting times or work on a different muscle group. At the end of the day I want you to be comfortable and enjoy the workout.

What should I eat before my session?

It is your choice, we would recommend not eating a big meal before a session because you may feel sick. A small snack with some carbohydrates and protein would be ideal, especially before a morning session. Don't eat too close to the start of your session, probably 30-45 min before it starts would be the latest we'd recommend. If you have a nutrition component to your FitR plan, we will advise more specifically.

What do I need to bring to my session?

Comfortable clothes, a small towel such as a flannel or sweat towel, and water! If you need to bring anything else, we will discuss this with you prior to your session with plenty of notice.

Can I do other exercise outside of my training sessions?

Of course, being active outside of training sessions is highly encouraged. You can still do low/medium intensity activities on rest days, for example: go for a long walk, swim, hike or join some classes like yoga, Pilates etc. just make sure you don't over train, consume appropriate nutrition and recover properly.

How often should I train?

Depending on the goals, three sessions a week with good nutrition is enough to make amazing progress. We will discuss this with you at your consultation, including your goals, the time you have available, how we can schedule training around your routine and commitments and how many sessions a week best suit you.
